Top Ten New Mexicans*
1. Traffic--Clearly the best picture of the year.
2. John Denver, singer/songwriter--Contrary to
popular
belief, John Denver is not from Denver, CO. He
was
born in quaint Roswell, NM to two attractive
teenage
aliens, and his parents' story story became the
basis
of the WB television show "Roswell".
3. Paul Benedict, actor--Most famous for his role
of
Bentley on the popular sitcom "The Jeffersons,"
he is
still alive.
4. Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid--Below average
Dylan.
Worth it if only for "Knockin'on Heaven's Door".
I
give it 3 stars.
5. Linda Wertheimer, NPR
correspondent--Wertheimer
developed her soothing "morphine drip" of a voice
in
the pure mountain air of Taos, NM.
6. Rudolfo Anaya, author--Wrote Bless Me,
Ultima. Also quite a shotputter back in his
salad
days.
7. Conrad Hilton, founder of the Hilton hotel
chain--Started his business at the age of 8 by
charging his friends for sleepovers while
offering a
free continental breakfast starting promptly at
6am.
8. Folsom-Paleo Indians--The first known
inhabitants
of the New Mexico region. Artifacts found 10,000
years after their disappearance included lyrics
to the
ancient Native American folk hymn, "Folsom Pueblo
Blues."
9. Jim Plunkett, former NFL quarterback--Hates Al
Davis.
10. Dennis Chavez, US Senator, 1935-1962--Hated
Jim
Plunkett.
